Carrying your baby offers a huge advantage for many parents. It ensures that you as a carrier have your hands free. Going for a nice walk with your baby, doing chores around the house or rocking your baby to sleep without your arms souring, it’s all possible with a baby carrier.
When purchasing a baby carrier, you can pay attention to several aspects to make wearing it as comfortable as possible. Your baby is still very fragile and has flexible joints. Not every position is desired in a baby carrier. Below in the text I explain to you what exactly an ergonomic baby carrier is and what you can pay attention to when purchasing it.

A sling or wrap is the best option when you consider what is the most ergonomic. A sling forms itself completely around your child’s body and distributes the weight best for you as a carrier. A sling must be properly knotted. If a sling is tied incorrectly, this can cause the weight of your baby to be distributed incorrectly or that your baby is not in the correct position in the sling.
A sling or wrap is of course more work and often takes time figuring out how to tie. The convenience of the baby carrier was created for this purpose. A baby carrier already has a fixed shape and you only have to adjust it on yourself and the body of your baby. You can easily grab a baby carrier to, for example, go for a walk or to have your hands free. Thanks to the carrier you can do the household again. Maybe… 😉

The word ergonomics is derived from the word ergonomics. Ergonomics means that the environment adapts to people. This can be a product or a space. Ergonomic products focus on providing comfort and a correct posture. With an ergonomic baby carrier it is therefore true that your child is carried in an ergonomic position.
What should I pay attention to when buying an ergonomic baby carrier?
There are a number of things you should pay attention to in order to purchase the most ergonomic baby carrier possible. There is a lot of choice and some brands seem ergonomic, but this is not always the case. Below I have made a list of points that you should pay attention to with an (ergonomic baby carrier.
Your baby should be in a squat and spread position in the carrier. This pose, also known as the frog pose or M pose, is similar to the position of a newborn baby. In this position, the legs are slightly raised and spread. Just like a frog.
Your baby receives support from one back of the knee to the other. Take a good look at the size of the carrier. If the baby carrier is too small, the fabric will run up to the thighs and if the baby carrier is too large, the lower legs will not be able to bend properly.
Your baby leans against a flexible back panel. A hard back panel puts too much pressure on your baby’s back. This creates an unnatural position which is not good for your baby’s back. Your baby does not yet have an S spine like an adult, but a slightly rounder back. A flexible baby carrier ensures that this natural position can be maintained.
Adjust the ergonomic baby carrier well to your body. Make sure to tighten the straps evenly to distribute your baby’s weight as evenly as possible over your body. Do not overtighten the (shoulder) straps. This does not make it easier to wear!
